NEWCASTLE THUNDER team chief Chris Thorman has been praised by a rival coach for his work in the face of adversity.
The former Workington boss took charge of his home-city club in 2023 and remained on board after the club nearly went under at the end of that year.
Thunder haven’t won any of their 26 matches since, losing all 20 in the league last year and suffering a 48-6 home loss to Swinton Lions in this season’s opener.
But Swinton coach Paul Wood said: “Chris Thorman has done a great job with the Newcastle team. I thought they just kept coming and coming.
“Although we scored 48 points, I felt like they defended until the 80th minute. They worked really hard on the inside and disrupted some of our attack.
“We’ve got to give credit to Newcastle, they did really well and stuck together as a team.”
