Same principles, new ambitions for Bradford Bulls boss

BRADFORD BULLS boss Brian Noble accepts things have changed since his first trophy-laden spell at the helm in the early noughties.

But the club legend, now 63 and taking charge of a team in the second tier rather than Super League, says his core demands as a coach remain the same.

Noble led Bradford to three top-flight titles, three World Club Challenge triumphs and a Challenge Cup between 2001 and 2006.

He is happy many will recall those heady days – but says his main interest is in helping move the fallen giants closer to playing in Super League for the first time since 2014.

“What we’re trying to do now has nothing to do with what we achieved previously,” he told Rugby League World magazine (purchase here).

“I just want us to do really well and be respected as a good team who work hard and try to improve.

“I have never liked talking about trophies. They may come, but for now, it’s all about what we do and what we learn.

“We have to pay homage to the great years the club had and understand why they were so good.

“Will I call upon some of the older players involved in those days to speak to this group? Of course.

“But this new adventure we’re on now is a progression of what has been going on for four or five years.

“At one point Bradford Bulls were a worldwide phenomenon and a name on everyone’s lips.

“There aren’t many clubs that have the standing this club had and the story is one of a rollercoaster ride and a half.

“At the top of that rollercoaster I was privileged enough to work with a group of players who were unbelievably good and fully committed to the cause.

“If we can get the same commitment from the current crop of players then we’re in for another good ride.”

Bradford have a warm-up match at Dewsbury on Sunday.
