RFL chief executive Nigel Wood has confirmed the game’s governing body is in discussions with the French Federation about bringing Toulouse into the Championship.
Wood told TotalRL.com: “There’s been discussions about the inclusion of a second French club in the competition for some time and we’ve been in discussions with the French Federation.
“At this stage there is nothing to announce. However, I think it’s a very straightforward equation, and that is would whatever action you took by including a second club into our competition enhance our competition and enhance French Rugby League?
“If the answer to both those questions is yes then it’s a sensible discussion to have, but if we can’t be sure on that or there isn’t a sensible option yet, then there’s nothing to announce, but we are in discussions and we would be open minded about it if the right proposal came our way.”
